Sanjukta Parashar was born on 3 October 1979 in Assam — a state of breathtaking beauty but also profound socio-political complexity. She spent her formative years in Lakhimpur before the family moved to Guwahati. Her father Dulal Chandra Barua served as an engineer in the Irrigation Department, and her mother Meena Devi worked in Assam Health Services — a household that breathed public service.

Growing up in the Assam of the 1980s and 1990s — with ULFA insurgency, ethnic tensions, and NDFB violence as everyday realities — shaped young Sanjukta’s conviction: change must be driven from within the system, by those willing to take personal risks.

UPSC Journey – Why IPS Over IAS

In 2006, Sanjukta Parashar secured All India Rank 85 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. With this rank, IAS was comfortably within reach. She chose IPS — deliberately, consciously, and without hesitation.
